Catching Up & Christmas Ornaments!

Wooden angels on my mantle.
It's been a while since I've mentioned anything about my life besides purchases, crafts, and Advent calendars so I thought I would do a quick little update about what I've been up to and show you my Christmas decorations!

First off, I want to thank every single one of you who reads my blog. It takes up a lot of my free time, but I absolutely love doing it. I am so encouraged when I hear feedback from you and see who all has read a post. It encourages me to keep up what I'm doing and lets me know that others find what I have to say and the projects I work on interesting. Thank you so much for your time and encouraging words. I love to hear any feedback. Whether it be positive, an idea for a coming post, or a critique of what I've been doing I'd love to hear from you. You can get a hold of me via comments, Facebook, or Twitter and I try to respond to everyone!

Getting ready to walk my dog.
Right now Albuquerque has been cold. Several mornings have been just 4 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not what Albuquerque weather is supposed to be like, but I'll excuse it until Christmas. After then I expect it to be at least 60 degrees out. When I walk my dog I have to put on so many layers I can barely move. The other day Hubby said I looked like a microphone because I had on a hat with a pom-pom on top, a scarf, a fuzzy black scarf over the top of that, a shirt, a sweatshirt, a coat, gloves, sweat pants, knee-high fuzzy socks, and hiking boots. I would have worn both the hoods from sweatshirt and coat, too, had they fit over the top of my hat. Going outside in the cold is serious business. I think it is one of the most miserable things. My dog is going to start getting short walks so he can get the necessary things out of his system, then I'll take him inside and play tug-o-war until I tire him out. That sounds far more pleasant than being outside.

The stocking my mother cross-stiched.
The one good thing about all this cold and snow is that it makes it easy to get in the Holiday spirit. The Christmas tree is up, ornaments hung, stockings out, twinkle lights on, and Christmas candles burning. I love Christmas and I'm always sad when it's time to take down the tree. I leave it out as long as I can get away with. I even made Hubby watch a Christmas movie on December 1st. He wasn't exactly thrilled to be watching it so early in the year, but he was a good sport. I've given him a bit of a break, but I plan to start watching bunches of Christmas movies soon. What's better than cuddling up under a blanket with cocoa, popcorn, and a Christmas movie?

While movies are all well and good, reading is also a necessity. With winter and Christmas on my mind Harry Potter seems to come up. That may seem weird, but the first time I read Harry Potter was over December and Christmas break. I read the whole series in one month. Every book talks about Christmas, there are candles floating in the air, huge feasts, mystical presents, magic, and a strong value placed on family and friends. If any season seems magical, it's Christmas so Hogwarts seems to fit right in. I've already finished reading The Sorcerer's Stone... again... and have moved on to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I don't know if I will read through the entire series right now, but I've been enjoying revisiting it. J.K. Rowling has such a fun way of articulating the story.

I have been having a lot of fun with board games and card games recently. I've always really enjoyed them, but my collection of games has been pretty small and limited since I moved in 2012. I've started building it up again with my Hubby so we've been picking out games we like together. The two we've been enjoying most right now are Ticket To Ride and Sequence. I met some friends of a friend at a party a couple weeks ago who love board games maybe even more than I do so we set up a game night on Saturday and I had lots of fun playing games into the wee hours.

Still on games, but now for video games, I've been enjoying Starbound. It is currently $15 on Steam, so it was pretty cheap. This was the game Hubby chose to play on Advent Day Six when his gift was that I would play a video game of his choice. I had so much fun I've been playing this game ever since. It is currently in Beta so if you buy it now you get all the updates for free. I think I've written a lot already, so I'll save the other things I've been up to for a future post.

What are your favorite Christmas movies and board games?

  2. Haha, I know! That's actually part of my game plan now. Since it gets dark pretty early and I've walked into less than savory people before, I figure if I look scary they are more likely to leave me alone. Plus it's warm. :) Thank you! Christmas is my very favorite holiday (although, I don't think that is very original).
