Literary Libations: Pomegranate Wine Cooler

Share it Please
Yesterday I wanted a drink that was refreshing and light. I had some sweet white wine, a Malvasia Bianca by St. Clair, pomegranate juice by POM Wonderful, and a bottle of local honey. I filled my glass half way with wine, topped it up the rest of the way with the pomegranate juice, and added just a splash of honey. The result was sweet drink with lots of flavor.

I've just finished up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the very last book in the series, and this drink tied in nicely. The deep red color of liquid was reminiscent of the blood spilled in the Battle of Hogwarts, but the sunny lemon on the side is like the beam of hope that always seems to be present. I (probably) won't be talking about Harry Potter any more, so for those who need their regular fix you can hang out at Pottermore. The next several books I plan on reading are not part of a series, so we'll have a lot more variety for a while.

I'm thinking of reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt or The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer next. Have you ever read either of them? And if so, what are your thoughts (no spoilers, please!)?

  2. I'm guilty of never finishing the last book of Harry Potter but instead watched the movie haha. This is one drink I'm going to try b/c wine makes up any day. And the fact that u put pomegranate & honey makes it refreshing & sweetly delicious! Would this be ok w/ red wine too u think?

    1. I actually think the movies for the 7th book were some of the most well done in the series, but it's definitely worth reading the book too. This is my second time reading it and I've loved it both times. :) I think this would be good with a sweet red, I'm not so sure about a dry red. There are some coolers that are meant for red wine, too, so I'll make a red wine cooler next week so you can see one intended for a red!

    3. I actually do to! I only had this particular white wine because I tried it at a wine tasting and liked it a lot more than I expected.

    1. Thanks for the insight. I've heard good things about The Goldfinch, but not much of anything about The Interestings. The description seemed, well, interesting so I put it on my radar. It's too bad it's depressing. I always have to be in the right mind frame to read sad books. :/

  5. Hey, nice choice of drink this week! I'm just reading The Interestings now, only half way through, and going slow for me, but i'm enjoying it, it's very different to what I would normally read, it's worth a go though! x
