Day One: A Trip On The Tram

Share it Please
My parents are here to visit! They arrived on Saturday and we spent a low key day letting them adjust to the time change. We have already been to a few fun places and have a lot more planned! Rather than my normally scheduled posts I'll be sharing what we are getting up to each day with you.

On Sunday we went up to the Sandia Peak Tramway, the longest aerial tram in the world at 2.7 miles. The tram took 15 minutes from the bottom to the top and we rose 4,000 feet from the base of the tram. The peak rests at 10,378 feet and we saw some great views!

At one point we could see a cabin built in the 1930s out of the same lime stone as the mountain. Hikers used to stay in it over night.

On the other side of the mountain there is skiing (it was already closed for the year) and many skiers chose to take the tram to the top and then ski down the other side rather than take the hour and a half drive from Albuquerque to the other side of the mountain.

It was extremely windy and muddy at the top, so we didn't go hiking. If we get the chance to return in the summer we will definitely take advantage of the trails. As it is, we had a lot of fun looking around and learning some of the history.
