Literary Libations: Watermelon Gin Fizz

Share it Please

Doesn't Watermelon Gin Fizz sound like something straight out of Willy Wonka? The original recipe can be found here . I adapted it for making just two drinks and for people who may not have a puree machine.

What you will need: a mini watermelon (or a big watermelon if you want more left overs), 3 ounces of gin, 4 tablespoons lime juice, 2/3 cup of ginger ale, and two lime wedges.

You will need 2 & 1/2 cups of diced watermelon, I found that to be about half of a mini watermelon. Set 1/2 cup of diced watermelon in the freezer. Leave it there until frozen. Wait to make the rest of your drink until the freezer portion is frozen OR prepare your drink and chill in the fridge until the watermelon in the freezer is frozen.

Set the other two cups of diced watermelon in a bowl and muddle. Make sure you muddle until you've gotten as much juice as you can out of the watermelon. Strain so that you just have the juice. Split the watermelon juice between two glasses. Add 1 & 1/2 ounces of gin, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, and 1/3 cup of ginger ale to each glass. Garnish with the frozen watermelon (also serves as ice cubes!) and lime wedges.

This drink is such fruity wonderfulness that you can't even taste the gin. If you have any younger people at the party simply don't add the gin to their drinks and they have a refreshing, fruit drink!
