How To: Wall Collage

Share it Please
I have a really large, really blank wall in my living room. It is also an awful brown color. I swear, the entire living room is the exact same color as a paper bag. It's a rental house, though, and I don't feel it's worth painting since I'd have to paint it back to the same color before moving out. That's left me wanting to find some way to cover the wall. I've also discovered that decorative works and art are really, really expensive. So until now it has remained blank. Then I came up with a way to basically turn my wall into an open scrap book, and I love it!

For some reason, up until now, I've never done much with my photos. As Lauren and I are approaching one year of marriage I thought how sad it would be if we couldn't remember what we did this first year when we are old and gray. I became determined to do something productive with my pictures that would somehow summarize the year. That way it would be easy to look back and remember what we did. Hopefully we'd never even forget in the first place. I decided to make collages and hang them on our big, blank wall. Two birds with one stone! Here are the collages I made:

Using PicMonkey (a free online photo editor) I selected the collage editor (top right hand side of the home page). Inside the collage editor I uploaded all the photos I wanted to use. For the format I chose 'square deal' and I chose the fourth size on the right (the one that fits the most pictures). I just went to town adding in pictures and arranging them how I wanted! Below I've put picture instructions for how I created my collage.

After creating the collage I printed them out at Walmart on 8x10 photo paper. I then hung them in cheap 8x10 white frames (similar frames here). My goal is to create a new collage every year. I'll make a new collage for Year One in September once we've truly been married a year. Eventually I want the wall (or a wall, preferably one in a house I own that is not the color of a paper bag) to be covered with our memories.

    1. Thank you so much! I know, one day I'll own my own house, though, and I can change the wall color as often as I want.

  6. I love it! We're also renters and the way I've solved the decor problem was to use painter's tape to tape a bazillion of our photos on the wall in a collage format--everyone who comes over loves to look at the photos and spot themselves in the photos, and the bonus is since I used tape it'll all come off without leaving holes in the wall when we move next month. Yes, it is a little college-student-esque, haha!

    1. Cute! I love photos, and who cares if it's a little dorm room, I think young married couples are allowed to get away with that. I hung my frames with push pins, so there will only be little holes rather than little ones. Not so bad. :) Plus when we moved in there was a giant hole above our fire place. It is currently covered by a clock. So I don't think they can complain about push-pin holes!
