Literary Libations: The Orangerita

Have you ever wanted to have a blended margarita without the actual hassle of a blender? I know I have! Whether it's because you don't own a blender or because your roommate is taking  mid-day siesta on the couch, I've got a solution for you.

You will need: 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate, tequila, lime juice. In a shaker add 4 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate, 2 oz. of tequila, and a splash of lime juice. Shake until well mixed. Pour into glass and serve immediately. No blender needed!

In last week's post I talked about Kiera Cass' YA novel, The Selection (you can read about it here). The Selection is the first in a trilogy and I finished both the second book, The Elite, and the third book, The One, this week. All three books are very fast reads. Now that I've finished all three of them, I can say that the series does continue to be interesting and I found each new book more enthralling than the last. The One was just published this past May and was very highly anticipated. I re-posted my review of The Selection below, there are no spoilers.

During the summer I like my literature simple and sweet, just like my desserts, which normally means I read a lot of Young Adult (YA) fiction. I just finished reading Kiera Cass's YA novel, The Selection, and I would highly recommend it if you want something light and fun to read this summer. This book is the perfect example of dystopian teenage literature meets fairytale. One of the other reviewers said it best, "I'm rating this book purely on my enjoyment of it and not on some scale deciding whether it was great literature or not. It's fluff and I loved it." In fact, this book is decidedly not great literature, so if that's what you want I suggest you look elsewhere. However, if like me, you are a sucker for romance novels in which princes dabble with beautiful, but otherwise normal girls, you will love this book. If you like dystopian novels like Divergent, you will devour this book. If you enjoy the trope in which the guy falls for the most disinterested girl, you will fall hard for The Selection. Prepare yourself, this novel is The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor and while my English degree is screaming at me to leave such decidedly YA fiction to the teenagers, I unashamedly love it. And I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it too.
