The Week In Review: Whirlwind

Share it Please
Whew, this week has been such a whirlwind! This last week my friend Jamie was visiting, I had my 24th birthday, Hubby's cousins were over, and we attended his grandfather's memorial service and funeral. If that doesn't sound busy enough we are driving up to L.A. (11 hours!) on Saturday, going to my friend Alyssa's wedding on Sunday, driving back (another 11 hours!) on Monday, and then hopefully sleeping all day Tuesday.

I told you a bit about my time with Jamie here and here, but I'll round it off now. On Wednesday Jamie made awesome spaghetti for my brithday and then followed it up with delicious bread pudding with lego candles. A word of advice, if you make bread pudding for a birthday don't stick the candles in too soon after it comes out of the oven. Our bread pudding ended up with some pretty colors, though. It was so delicious!

We waited until the weekend to really go out and celebrate. On Friday night I went out with Hubby, Jamie, and Katryn. The first stop was The Apothecary, a Prohibition-era themed rooftop bar at Hotel Parq Central. While the food and drinks were amazing, the view was stunning. From one side we could see downtown Albuquerque and from the other side we had a great view of the Sandia mountains.

The hotel has an interesting history. Built in 1926 as a hospital and turned into a psychiatric ward in the 70's, the building remained abandoned for several years before being renovated as a hotel in 2010. Many people claim that the building is haunted. To see pictures of the inside of the building, visit this photo essay.

Afterward we went to The Box to enjoy an improv comedy show and then to the ArtBar for some drinks. Something I found interesting, the ArtBar is a non-profit, private bar (year long memberships aren't very expensive, and you get to bring up to 10 guests in with you for free). I had never heard of such a thing until Friday night. Is this odd, or am I just not in the loop? I had an absolute blast with everyone on Friday. Sadly, Jamie had to head back home on Sunday morning. I can't wait until the next time we get to visit!

Thank you for your condolences, thankfully the service was very well done and I think it provided closure for much of the family.

    1. It is fun, but it is also a lot of driving. If I had a choice I would either spend more days at the destination or break up the driving more and visit some landmarks along the way. :)
